Popular Wedding Inclusions & Rituals

Every couple brings their own personality, culture and sense of fun to their wedding day, and these rituals are a beautiful way to express that. Some are heartfelt and traditional, some are playful and modern, and all of them add meaning, colour and connection to the ceremony. You can choose one, a few or none at all. The joy of a personalised ceremony is that every moment is shaped around what feels right for you.

Handfasting

A beautiful moment where the couple’s hands are gently wrapped with a cord or ribbon. It represents unity and the weaving together of two lives.

Mead Blessing

The couple shares a sip of mead from horns or glasses to celebrate sweetness, abundance and the courage of partnership. You are welcome to ask for my delicious mead recipe and the equipment I use to make it.

Unity Candle

Two individual flames come together to create one shared light. It symbolises the joining of families and the bright future ahead.

Sand Ceremony

Two or more colours of sand are poured into one vessel, creating a blend that can never be separated. It is a simple and stunning symbol of unity. Great for a blended family.

Ring Warming

Guests are invited to briefly hold the rings in a box with  clear lid and offer their love, blessings and good wishes before the couple exchanges them.

Ancestor Acknowledgement

A gentle moment that honours the people who came before and helped shape the couple’s story.

Water Ceremony

Two vessels of water are poured together to represent harmony, fluidity and the shared flow of life.

Love Letter and Wine Box Ritual

The couple writes letters to each other and places them in a box with a bottle of wine. It is sealed and opened on a future anniversary.

Tree Planting

The couple plants a young tree together to symbolise growth, nurturing and long term commitment.

Cultural Blessings

Readings, prayers or symbolic gestures that honour the cultural heritage of the couple or their families.

Ring Exchange with Personal Words

A heartfelt moment where the couple speaks their own words as they exchange rings.

Bilingual Delivery by Christina

Your ceremony can be delivered with selected moments in Danish or Swedish for cultural impact.

Bouquet Gathering Walk

As the bride walks up the aisle, she collects a single flower from each guest. Her bouquet is created from the hands and hearts of her favourite people. It is visually stunning and deeply symbolic.

Candle Ceremony

A single flame is lit to honour loved ones who are no longer with us or who cannot be present. It is a gentle tribute that symbolises memory, presence and the light they continue to shine.

Pets in the Ceremony

Furry family members can be included as ring bearers, flower pups or very important guests. They bring personality, laughter and heart melting moments that make the day uniquely yours.

Grandparents as Flower Girls

A joyful and sentimental twist on tradition. Inviting grandmothers or grandfathers to be flower girls adds warmth, humour and unforgettable charm. It honours their role in your life and gives them a moment in the spotlight.

Groom processional with parent escort

A modern and heartfelt way to begin the ceremony. The groom walks down the aisle with one or both parents beside him. They pause at the front so his parents can give him away with a hug, a kiss on the cheek or a quiet blessing. His wedding party then follows. It is a gorgeous moment that honours his family and elevates his entrance.

Kids as ring security

This is a fun and unforgettable way to involve children in the ceremony. The kids arrive wearing suits and sunglasses and carry a small suitcase marked for ring security. They walk the rings down the aisle with serious faces and playful swagger. It always gets a laugh and creates a moment everyone remembers with joy.

Stone balancing ritual

A calm and meaningful moment where the couple builds a small stack of stones together. Each stone represents something important in their relationship, creating a little piece of art that symbolises strength, balance and the foundation they share. It is also wonderful for children, who can add their own stone and feel part of the moment.

Wedding lasso ritual

A beautiful tradition where a lasso is gently placed around the couple in a figure eight shape. It represents unity, protection and the bond they are choosing for life. The moment feels tender and symbolic, and it is a lovely way to include family members who place the lasso over the couple with care and love.

What guests can throw or wave for your exit moment

Your exit moment is one of the happiest parts of the day, and there are so many lovely ways for guests to celebrate as you walk back down the aisle. Confetti creates a joyful burst of colour. Petals give a soft and romantic feel. Soap bubbles float through the air and look magical in photos. Ribbon wands are perfect for venues that do not allow anything messy and they create gorgeous movement and sparkle.

One of my couples married at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where petals and confetti were not allowed, so they got wonderfully creative and handed out knitted flower heads. They were easy to pick up afterwards and guests absolutely loved them. It was a hit and a beautiful example of how a little imagination can make your exit moment both joyful and venue friendly.

Each option brings its own energy and you can choose the one that suits your style and your venue.

Step parent gift ritual

This is a tender and meaningful moment that honours the bond between a step parent and their step child. During the ceremony the step parent offers a small gift, often something symbolic or personal, as a gesture of love, support and commitment to their shared future. It can be a piece of jewellery or another keepsake that carries special meaning. It is a beautiful way to acknowledge the role they play in the child’s life and it creates a heartfelt moment that guests always feel deeply.

Giving your bridal bouquet to your mum

This moment is always such a heart warmer. Instead of tossing the bouquet, the bride turns to her mum and gifts it to her. It is simple, it is tender and it is full of love. You can say a few words, give her a hug or just let the gesture speak for itself. It is one of those moments that stops everyone in their tracks because it feels so genuine and so full of gratitude. And if you still want that fun bouquet toss moment, you can absolutely have a second bouquet made just for tossing.
